Over 100 years ago Elliotts Traditional Family Butchers opened in Kislingbury a small village in South Northamptonshire.
In 1981 Roger took over the business, a few months later Nick Hartwell joined Roger as a Saturday Boy. In 1994 they became business partners and opened a second butchery shop in Towcester which Nick then devoted his time to, while Roger turned his attentions to Kislingbury and their family farm.
The farm is based beside the butchers shop and is run by Roger and his son Thomas. They specialise in producing traditional native breeds, predominantly Hereford and South Devon Cattle, both renowned for their excellent eating qualities. Lamb and Mutton are from there own flock of sheep kept extensively on old pasture land giving their meat a traditional taste and succulence.
The sheep and cattle are sent to a local family run abattoir and returned to the shops as a whole carcass. All meat is then hung and matured on the bone to maximise flavour and tenderness.
Duroc Pork is locally produced for the butchers. Duroc is slow maturing pork ensuring full flavour and is renowned for its high levels of tenderness. Elliotts dry cure their own bacon and make an extensive range of sausages and burgers.
The chicken sold in the butchers is free range and English farm fresh chicken.
In 2001 Pamela Grattan joined the team and together with Nick and Roger reinvented Elliotts Traditional Pork Pie which was soon to become a gold medal winning Pie. Pamela went on to develop a range of homemade ready meals, as demand increased for home made food the range became larger and it soon became clear that Elliotts Kitchen warranted a premises of it own.
In 2005 a partnership was formed between Roger, Nick and Pamela and Elliotts Kitchen was born, a delicatessen to the rear of the Butchers shop in Towcester.
